About HMS Macaw
This website has been established to record the history
of HMS Macaw in the many forms it has taken over the years
and also to record the memories of those that served
there.
We have ambitious plans
to restore HMS Macaw to the appearance it would have had
as a FAA Station during WW2 and to transfer our Fleet and
Fleet Air Arm collections to this site.
We will also have an
extensive Home Front display including Prefab bungalows,
aircraft, a collection of military vehicles and artillery
pieces to link with the work of the Royal Artillery at
this site and its work at the nearby Experimental Proving
Range at Eskmeals.
Probably the largest
independent collection of Militaria in the UK will be
displayed here.
We also wish to open up
the Cadet accommodation units to be able to offer
additional facilities in the Lake District.
The local Royal Naval
Association will also make HMS Macaw its HQ.
To also make HMS Macaw a
valuable community resource once again. |
